Pickles for Peace is a series of fundraising fermentation workshops organised by Ladies Who Ferment; a collective of four female fermentation practitioners and educators who come from four corners of the world, with a shared passion - to make fermentation accessible to all, as a nourishing, but also nurturing practice in our daily lives.
Given the current unstable geopolitical situation around the world, the ongoing conflicts, civil wars and political unrest, our aim is to focus on as many cultures around the world that are experiencing these atrocities by partnering with food activists, authors or educators representing those communities, to shed light on the current situation.
For us as humans, at our core, is the need for connection; connection to others, to nature, to the world and everything in it. Hostilities around the world and through the ages were and are a separation from that need for connection, polarising and creating suffering for many. We see fermentation as a platform and a tool for building these bridges by sharing with you the stories and current history, with fermentation and preservation techniques at the core of food knowledge of those communities.
Pickles can be found around the world and most aim to cleanse your palate and help digest food. We invite you to break bread and share pickles with us to shine a light that “otherness” can be a choice; what lies in the hearts of all is the need for togetherness.
